Invest in The Motherlode
The Motherlode is a creative and embodied exploration of our motherlines, an artistic reframing of memory, inheritance, and the unseen stories that shape us.
We, Jamie Colston and Moi Tu, are creating a living artwork that weaves conversation, illustration, poetry, and ritual into a collective offering.
This project is guided by intuition, ancestral presence, and a commitment to exploring what wants to emerge. Your financial contribution - through buying artwork or gifting support - helps us follow the threads, honour the process, and bring The Motherlode fully into form.
Why this matters
Every one of us carries stories in our bones. Stories passed down through mothers, grandmothers, and generations before us. Some are told aloud. Some are hidden. Some live in the body as sensations, grief, or joy.
The Motherlode is our attempt to give voice and shape to those untold stories. To sit with what cannot be easily explained. To create a space where connection, healing, and beauty can surface.
“To speak into a space on behalf of my mum and her ancestors…to give space to that, to honour it, to let it flow, fly like a bird with wings of forgiveness and transformation.”
— Lucy, Motherlode interviewee

What your support creates
Your contribution funds the essential development work that allows us to create wise art at the pace of integrating discovery:
100 recorded conversations with storytellers, each honoured with care, ritual, and reciprocity.
Illustrations, poetry, and creative responses inspired by these stories.
A shared online archive & live events, where the work can be witnessed and explored in community.
Behind the scenes care and curation: listening, transcribing, editing, drawing, writing, and weaving it all together.
This isn’t a transaction — it’s a collaboration. You’re part of it too..
Why now?
We have been tending The Motherlode for thirteen moon cycles. In that time, we’ve completed 33 interviews and co-created almost 100 artistic artefacts — poems, drawings, songs, hymns, and pieces of embroidery. The work has spilled naturally into streets, parks, workshops, and conversations with strangers. It is alive, and it is calling for its next phase.
To complete the remaining 67 interviews, Jamie is dedicating the period from February to 26 July entirely to this work. This next chapter requires deep creative attention, alongside preparation, scheduling, listening, transcribing, editing, drawing, writing, and weaving. To hold this with the care it deserves, it needs full-time focus.
Our hope is to raise £15,000 to support nine months of development and delivery — a season of steady, devoted work that allows the Motherlode to evolve further.
Earlier this year we imagined this as a crowdfunding campaign, but that didn’t sit right with the spirit of the project or the way it is held between us. Instead, we offer this as a gentler, more relational invitation - to you and your people - to help us create a body of wisdom artefacts over the coming year. Work that may open something in those who encounter it: a deeper understanding of love, a more generous attention to what matters, and a shared movement toward healing, personal and collective.
