What people say about our Community Ceilidhs
“This is the most inclusive and enjoyable thing I have been to since we moved to Bath in 2004. Come along if you're free - bring the tweens n teens, ours loved it!”
— Cathy“The space everyone creates is really beautiful and the perfect place to have fun in an inter-generational way. The music and dancing is hilarious and boot-stompingly good, and I always fall straight to sleep when I get home! This ceilidh is special because of the playful and generous community that it fosters.”
— Polly“Saturday night was one of the first times I haven’t felt othered when being out in a big space locally so extra thanks for that and please pass my thanks for providing such a beautiful event. Roll on the next one…”
— Ceilidh AttendeeWhat to expect
Live music, friendly faces, simple instructions and lots of “I don’t know what I’m doing”; “Nor do I!” conversations.
You will be warmly welcomed by people, candlelight and smells of delicious food being made. There are three rooms to explore which include; Music & Dancing, Food & Drinks, Rest & Board Games.
Before the Ceilidh begins we gather together to greet each other and the space. Warming our bodies and hearts in preparation for dancing the ceilidh dancing is in two halves, with food and drinks served throughout the night, and a 35 minute break in the middle.
For our regular community ceilidh goers, we are thrilled to announce that we have a new caller, Tara Young, who will lead us all in the dance, with two extraordinary musicians.
Tara Young - Our Caller
Tara is a ceilidh caller and play therapist.
“There is nothing like a dance of multi generations weaving in and out of each of other, laughing and sharing a rhythm. As soon as the fiddle begins I often think how perfect everything is with just these people in this place doing just this things. I love to share dances that are filled with connection and joy.”
About Our Community Ceilidhs
More than social dance events, our ceilidhs are intentionally designed spaces to build the intergenerational connection that we often lack in our society.
These spaces are alcohol free to ensure that everyone is on the same level. We have designed the event to include spaces where we hope everyone will feel comfortable. We welcome people as they are, and you can dance sitting down as well as standing up.
Our ceilidhs are held at seasonal shifts throughout the year, keeping in mind our relationship with the land as well as each other.
Each cycle of the ceilidh season has this consideration: what do we need in our community and our world right now? What do we hope for, and who are we inviting?
This year, in what seems to be a deepening of these polarised times, our hope is to create spaces of life affirming human connection. Where we can belong for a short time in a community experience that welcomes our unspoken differences, and gives us an opportunity to feel what is common between us. Food, dance, respect, kindness and play.
We have a financial structure that enables people to pay what they can: whether that is a capacity to support others or allows you to attend when you have less access to money.
This year we are experimenting with a shared community meal, and will be making curry on site for everyone who comes. We ask for a small contribution for each person attending to make this possible. Everything will be Gluten Free and Vegetarian/Vegan.
If you would like to come and join us for curry making, event preparation, and clear up, then please get in touch - jamie@jamiecolston.com
We look forward to seeing you, however you want to join in.
